Cioppino

Posted February 21, 2012 By Janice Cioppino

You can basically use whatever seafood you like for this fish stew.  It’s a wonderful dish for a cold night with some oat bran toast.  Hope you enjoy!!

CIOPPINO

1 small onion, sliced
2 leeks, white parts only, sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 T dried parsley
1/4 t dried oregano
1/2 t fresh thyme, chopped
1 bay leaf
1 28 oz can crushed tomatoes
1 4 oz can tomato sauce
1/2 cup dry red or white wine
1/2 cup clam juice or chicken broth
1/3 lb large shrimp, shelled and deveined
1/2 lb fish pieces, such as whitefish, swordfish, salmon, etc

In a Dutch oven, saute the onion and leeks in a bit of cooking spray.  Add all the seasonings and garlic.  Cook for 5 minutes.  Stir in the tomatoes and wine and simmer, covered, for 40 minutes.  Add water or clam juice to thin, if needed.  Season with salt and pepper and add hot sauce for desired heat.  You can make this ahead of time and store in the fridge until ready to serve.  You don’t want to overcook the fish and this is best served immediately after the fish has been added.

Add the fish to the hot base and cook for 10 minutes, covered.  Serve immediately with a couple of slices of this wonderful Oat Bran Bread recipe.

3 T fat free Philadelphia cream cheese
3 T fat free Greek yogurt
1/4 cup red bell pepper, finely chopped
1 T dried parsley
1/2 t dried oregano
4 whole eggs plus 2 egg whites
2 t baking powder
4 T oat bran
4 T wheat bran
2/3 cup fat free mozzarella, shredded
1/2 t salt

Line the bottom and 2 sides of a 6?x10? baking dish with parchment paper and spray with a bit of cooking spray.  Mix all the ingredients together and pour into 6×10 baking dish and bake at 350 for 30-35 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out clean and top is nice and brown.  Let cool for 5 minutes and remove from pan.  I love this bread toasted.  I make a nice flat loaf in my Le Creuset baking dish and slice it lengthwise and toast it.  Delicious!

Dukan Diet Meal Ideas

You can successfully complete The Dukan Diet if you enjoy protein foods, and don't have any major dietary restrictions.

Dukan Diet Phases

The first phase of the diet, is called the Attack phase. During this phase, you can eat nothing but protein for a few days. Meat proteins are acceptable proteins, and so is tofu. But most vegetable sources of protein are not acceptable during this diet phase.

The second phase is called the Cruise phase. When you're in this phase, you are allowed to have veggies every other day.

Phase 3 is the Consolidation phase. During this phase, you can enjoy starches like breads, fruits and pastas. You can have also two free meals for each week. During these "free meals," you can have any food that you like, but you shouldn't go crazy, and eat excessively. Just have normally sized meals, that are something that you truly enjoy.

The final stage is called the Stabilization phase. This phase will last throughout your entire life. During Stabilization you should eat moderately -- minding the Dukan Diet principles you have learned, and maintaining at least one all protein day each week.

Keep in mind that during your initial phases, you can't use any fancy sauces with your proteins that contain sugars and vegetables and naturally occurring starches. You have to essentially eat protein seasoned with salt and pepper alone -- cooked in just a small bit of oil, drink water, and eat 1 tablespoon of oat bran. During the Cruise phase, you can have up to 3 tablespoons of oat bran.

Menu Ideas

As you can see, if you enjoy eating proteins, you will find that this diet will work out well for you, and finding meal ideas will also be quite simple for you. When you prepare meats for this diet, there is no need to add excess oils and sugars during your preparation. Roasted chicken is ideal, as well as roasted or pan fried steak, eggs, pork chops, lean beef, veal, ostrich, fish and seafood (without breading).

If you are truly one of those people that has to have carbs, then you will not enjoy this diet very much; but honestly, you will find that it really is not that hard to go several days without carbs. Proteins are really quite satisfying, and you can have a little oat bran during your initial phase as well. You can actually have oat bran during all phases of the diet; but during the Attack phase, you can only have 1 tablespoon; and during the Cruise phases, you can only have 3 tablespoons or less. During the Consolidation phase and beyond, you can have oat bran when you like.

Vegetarian Considerations and Menu Ideas

As a vegetarian, you can eat tofu steaks, and any other form of soy protein. You can also eat lentils and eggs. When it comes to eggs, you should favor whites over yolks whenever possible.

As a vegetarian or vegan, you might be getting protein from sources that include kale, and many different types of beans. Though these sources of protein are generally recognized as healthy, they are not ideal for The Dukan Diet. The Dukan Diet only recommends that vegetarians eat eggs (favoring whites, with one yolk per meal), lentils and tofu during the first 3 phases of the diet.

As a vegan, your first diet days can be quite rough, so you should prepare yourself for handling such limited menu options. Because of these limits, many vegans feel that The Dukan Diet is not suitable for them. A vegan cannot eat eggs or egg products. But if you pan fry the tofu in a little bit of oil with salt and pepper, it might really not be so bad, since you only have to do it for just a few days -- and then later for one day a week during your stabilization period.

French Dip Sandwich

Posted February 22, 2012 By Janice French Dip Sandwich

Yummy, yummy.  This bread is so incredibly versatile!  I’m in love with sandwiches and don’t have to feel guilty about having one again!!

FRENCH DIP SANDWICH

FRENCH ONION TOP SIRLOIN

1 2 lb top sirloin
1 large onion, sliced
1/4 cup red wine
2 cups low sodium beef broth
2 T fresh thyme, chopped
salt and pepper

Season meat with salt and pepper.  Heat a dutch oven on the stove and brown both sides of meat in a bit of cooking spray.  Remove from pan and set aside.  Add the onions and cook for 5 minutes, or until soft.  Add the wine and cook for another 5 minutes.  Add the meat back to the pot, add the broth and thyme.  Bring to a boil, turn down to a simmer, cover and cook for 2 hours.  I cut my meat into chunks about halfway through to help it along.  The easiest way to remove the fat from the broth is to refrigerate it and remove the fat that settles on the top.  Serve meat on sandwich buns with broth along side.

SANDWICH BUNS

2 large eggs
1/4 cup egg white substitute
dash of Splenda, or Stevia
pinch of cream of tartar
3 ounces fat free or low fat cream cheese
1/2 t minced onion
1/4 t onion powder
1 t kosher salt
1 t toasted minced onion

Separate the eggs.  Whip egg whites and cream of tartar until stiff (the egg white mix has to be VERY stiff).  Transfer whites to a chilled bowl  Add sweetener, minced onion, onion powder and cream cheese to the yolks and egg substitute. Mix to combine the ingredients together.  Using a spatula, gradually fold the egg yolk mixture into the white mixture, being careful not to break down the whites.  Line a pizza pan with parchment paper, making 6 mounds. Flatten each mound slightly. Sprinkle salt and toasted onion on top of each bun.  No need to spray the paper.  Bake 25-30 minutes at 300. Let cool on the sheet for a few minutes and cool completely on a wire rack. Refrigerate until ready to use or use immediately.

Making the Dukan Diet Attack Phase More Palatable

The Dukan diet is a regime, created by French nutritionist Dr. Pierre Dukan, that promises fast weight loss. I lost 4lbs in the first 5 days during my Attack phase. The Dukan diet has been especially designed with diet motivation and satisfaction in mind. Accordingly, people attempting the Dukan diet can expect to see fast weight loss, virtually no hunger pangs or food cravings, and no calorie counting or food weighing. Let's take a quick look at these benefits of the Dukan diet.

Fast weight loss is a huge motivating factor in any diet. When you can see the pounds dropping off. When your clothes fit better and other people compliment you on your weight loss, you feel motivated to keep on going. If you are rapidly losing weight but you feel hungry all the time and craving all your favourite food and snacks, you can quickly lose motivation. You are also more likely to give up on your diet if eating becomes a chore; with calories needing counting and food having to be carefully weighed and measured. The Dukan diet anticipates all these motivation killers and manages to avoid them. On the Dukan diet you will lose weight fast and you won't feel hungry or have to count calories and weigh food. You can eat as much as you like of the allowed foods.

The most rapid weight loss on the Dukan diet is during the first phase, called the Attack phase. Dr. Dukan, through 30 years of experience as a nutritionist helping people lose weight, knows that dieters are the most determined during the first few days of their diet. He designed the Dukan diet with this in mind and came up with what he calls the Attack phase. Depending on the weight loss goals, the attack phase lasts from 2-7 days. These days are protein only days. Dieters can eat most meats and fish, as well as eggs. Dairy products such as cottage cheese, yogurt, quark and skimmed milk can be eaten as long as they are the non-fat varieties.

These foods can be eaten as often as the dieter feels hungry. The high protein content means dieters feel full very quickly and don't suffer hunger pangs. Fibre is added to the diet in the form of oat bran. A recommended 1.5 litres+ of water should be drunk every day for the benefit of the dieter's kidneys. After a few days the diet should see weight loss of up to 6lbs.

Although you will lose weight and not feel hungry, you may find the menu during the Attack phase is a little bland. While you are not allowed to fry your meat, or add fatty or sugary sauces you can still make your food more palatable with a few flavour intensive additions.

Whilst on the Attack phase of the Dukan diet you can flavour your food with almost all herbs and spices. Although you must be careful with salt. Vinegar may be used to add tang, lemon juice can give zing and you can spice up your food with chillies. Rather than grilling your chicken breast as it is, you could leave it in a marinade of yogurt and tikka spices overnight. Finely chopped pickles mixed with yogurt and a squirt of lemon makes a tasty dip.

Sweeteners are also permitted on the Dukan diet. For those of you with a sweet tooth, a vanilla pod, skimmed milk and egg yolks (with sweetener to taste) is all you need for a delicious dairy dessert. Mix these ingredients together in the morning, transfer to a pot and put it in the fridge - you'll have a real treat waiting for you when you get home.

The pure protein days of the Dukan diet are the most effective weight loss days but they don't have to be the hardest. With a little ingenuity you can find the flavours to jazz up all of your allowed foods.

The Dukan Diet - Is It Any Good?

The Dukan diet is latest of a long line of wonder diets that appear every year or two. In the past we have had the F Plan, The Beverly Hills, Cabbage, Atkins and many more diet plans that were going to make us all slimmer and fitter. The fact that so many of us are still over weight seems to question the long term effectiveness of some of these diets.

So how does the Dukan Diet score on the achievability scale? At first glance it has a lot going for it, having been developed by doctor and weight loss expert Pierre Dukan. The diet like its author originated in France where we are told over more than 1.5 million French woman swear by this diet. Amongst its keenest fans are Jennifer Lopez and Giusele Bundchen.

Dr Dukan claims that his diet is intended for those who need to lose a considerable amount of weight. So if you need to lose less than 20 lbs the diet is probably not for you. However, with its promise of quick weight lose in the early stage and a steady lose as you pass through the four stages of the diet it has some appeal.

For the first week you are restricted to a protein only diet and in this respect it may sound very much like the Atkins diet but there are some very marked differences. When it says "protein only" that is exactly what it means, you cannot even look at a lettuce leaf or a broccoli floret. Also this is very much a time limited phase of the diet which you should only stay on for a week to 10 days.

As with the Atkin's diet I think that such a high protein diet will give you some social problems such as flatulence and bad breath in the early stages. So your friends may stay away from you during this period. You may also feel tired and drained whilst you are on this phase of the diet.

The good news is that you should loose up to 10 lb in weight during this period. The Dukan Diet was devised for people with serious weight problems who needed to lose a considerable amount of weight. There are better ways if you are just looking to drop a dress size or get into an old pair of jeans.

If you do undertake this first phase of the diet you are advised to drink 3 litres of water a day. A typical days' diet in what is called the Attack Phase would be eggs for breakfast, a piece of fish for lunch and a lean steak for dinner. As you will already be able to see the Dukan Diet is not going to be for everyone but if you want to lose a considerable amount of weight reasonably quickly then this could be what you are looking for.

The Dukan Diet Side Effects And What You Must Know Before Starting the Diet

The Dukan diet is a protein rich, low carbohydrate diet in four stages. Dieters can expect fast weight loss with little or no food cravings or hunger pangs. The first stage of the Dukan diet, the Attack Phase, lasts for anything up to seven days, depending on the weight loss goals, and consists of protein rich food only. This is the toughest part of the diet and people have noticed increased feelings of tiredness and occasional light headaches. A few people have experienced constipation however this often goes away in the next phase of the diet.

During the second phase of the diet, the Cruise Phase, vegetables are introduced into the menu. If constipation was a problem during the previous phase, dieters are encouraged to increase the amount of vegetables to ease this condition. People report increased energy with tiredness no longer being a problem during this stage. The loss of food cravings and the lack of hunger can be experienced as a wholly unexpected side-effect for the dieter, a lack of appetite. This loss of appetite can be disturbing for people for whom meal times were a big aspect of their pre-diet life. For many dieters, this loss of appetite is a welcome relief but for a few, it can be disheartening. Most people report that these feelings are temporary and the appetite returns, albeit for healthy foods such as fresh fruit and vegetables.

During the last two phases of the diet, the Consolidation Phase and the Stabilization Phase, very few side-effects are noted.

A side-effect people thinking about starting the Dukan diet express most concern about involves kidney problems. Scare-stories in the media, which have increased as this diet has become more popular, have placed undue emphasis on the link between high protein diets and problems like kidney stones. The reason a person could have problems with their kidneys is that when protein is broken down in the body, waste products can be left behind. This waste is linked with problems like kidney stones. However, as long as you drink enough water every day, this waste will be washed clear from your system. How much water you need to drink each day is considered to be two litres. This is true whether you are following the Dukan diet or not. So as long as you drink the normal required daily quantity of water (on its own or mixed in other drinks) you will be fine.

Dukan Diet Menu Review

Have you ever wondered why French women always look slim and terrific? The answer to this lies in a diet which they have kept as a secret for over a decade.

When Dr Pierre Dukan released his book it had rave reviews in France and because of this I want to embark on a review to see if this would suit you as a regime.

In this Dukan Diet Menu review I want to point out the various possibilities you have available to you while undertaking this weight loss regime.

There are 4 phases to the Dukan Diet, with every phase being a separate diet in itself. Its emphasis is to have you lose weight fast initially then to proceed to undertake a stabilising diet that will replenish the body of its much needed nutrients and vitamins, whilst conditioning your body to be eating healthy foods. There for the foods allowed are different for all of these phases.

The 4 Phases of the Dukan Diet Menu

1) This is labelled the Attack Phase. It is designed to achieve maximum results quickly. According to the plan you will have a self examination to find out whether or not you will undertake this for 3 days minimum or the a 10 day maximum term for this protein based diet. If you need to lose a lot of weight you will need to be on the maximum term of 10 days in order to achieve favourable results. This initial phase can be likened to the Dr Atkins diet in that it is purely based on the consumption of meats with the only difference being eliminating the high fats of butter and oils.

2) Is labelled as the Cruise Phase. The choices here begin to include certain vegetables and is an integral part in replenishing your body according to the Dukans diet. The vegetables that does not include vegetables with starch, can only be taken every second day at this phase as still protein dominates the Dukan Diet menu.

3) The third phase is the consolidation phase according to the Dukan Diet regime. This phase begins to introduce carbohydrates to the plan, with foods such as rice, bread and pasta steadily coming into the diet. While protein still dominates the diet plan you are gifted 2 meals of your choice a week, to indulge in anything you like.

4) The final phase concentrates primarily on maintaining the weight. By this stage you have disciplined yourself, you have done the hard work and now it is time to reward yourself and see the results. The Dukan Diet Menu at this stage allows you the freedom to eat foods of your choice, with one caveat; You must devote one day to just eating protein a week. Dr Dukan recommends Thursdays.

Its as simple as that.

For more information about the food on this diet visit http://www.DukanDietMenu.co You will be shown a video with more detail to determine whether you would like to undertake such a diet plan.

The Dukan Diet Plan Menu - Is it For You?

The Dukan Diet plan menu may be the best way for you to decide whether this diet is right for you or not. After all, you're going to be following this diet for weeks so you need to be sure that you're up for it. That being said, realize that any weight loss requires making some sort of change in your life so don't expect to be able to eat as you used to with impunity.

The Dukan Diet is a high protein program. In the attack phase of the diet (phase 1), you need to go through several days of nothing but protein. While this can be challenging for someone who likes to eat carbs, it's only for several days so I believe that it can be done.

If you're a meat eater, you have lots of options to choose from: beef, veal, chicken, ostrich, fish, seafood, low fat dairy products, and eggs are some of the common sources of protein you can choose from and there are others you can find.

The Dukan Diet Menu may be more challenging for vegetarians as they can't turn to meat for their protein and most of them abstain from fish and seafood either. Eggs and dairy products seem to be the main available sources of protein for vegetarians and these can be the basis of the menu for you. You can also eat tufo if you like. However, many of the regular plant based protein sources that vegetarians rely on are prohibited so you do need to take this into account. You may need to be very creative when coming up with some menu ideas.

Because plant based protein sources seem to be limited on the Dukan Diet, I don't think that it's a suitable diet for vegans as they can't eat eggs or dairy products. I'm not sure where they're supposed to get their protein but it may be difficult and expensive for them to go on this program.

You should note that this diet wasn't made specifically for vegans or vegetarians. Draw your own conclusions.

As long as you can get enough protein from diverse permissable sources and as long as you don't allow the no carb and low carb weeks to deter you, this is a program that may be for you. However, the final decision is yours. You need to decide whether this is the program for you or not.

The Dukan Diet VS The Atkins Diet

Both the Dukan diet and the Atkins diet stick with the same objectives. Above all is to help in shedding weight and second is to reduce the ingestion of carbohydrates from food. One other important similarity is the number of phases which they share equally. Both of them offer 4 phases respectively. However, to satisfy the same objective, they follow two different routes. Where the Dukan diet stresses the usage of high proteins to minimize carbohydrates, the Atkins diet does not. It stresses on the consumption of carbohydrates which it would like to first reduce and then finish off in the dieter's diet.

Phase 1:

Where phase one in the Dukan diet is referred to as the "attack phase", the Atkins diet refers to it as the "induction phase". Although the objective of the first phase is comparable (to trim down body weight considerably), they go forward with unique methods. Dukan emphasizes complete protein food in this first phase, cutting down most of the carbs and fat. Atkins focuses on cutting down the consumption of the carbs only, and then works on switching the body from burning mostly carbohydrates (in the form of glucose) to burning mainly fat (including your body fat) for energy. Whilst there is no intake of carbs in the Dukan diet at all, Atkins diet allows for only 20 grams daily (including vegetables) during the first phase.

Phase 2:

Though objectives remain the same, there is a big difference in the paths in phase 2. The "Cruise phase" of the Dukan diet is about how to attain the target weight and for the first-time allows the dieter to eat vegetables. The Atkins diet ensures that a small increase of 5gm to 10gm (25 to 30 grams a day) in the intake of carbohydrates occurs in the first week of the phase "Ongoing Weight Loss" (OWL) until the weight stops to decrease so the dieter can easily determine when the maintenance period should start. Then the dieter is advised to subtract five grams of carbohydrates from their daily consumption so that they move on with sustained, moderate weight-loss.

Phase 3:

The diets use a different approach at phase 3, which is the "Consolidation phase" for the Dukan diet and "Pre-maintenance" for the Atkins diet. For the Dukan diet, this is the start of the maintenance period of the dieter's "true weight" that was attained in phase 2. Where as at this phase the Atkins diet performs the preparations required by the Pre- maintenance period. The carbohydrate intake is reduced again to achieve the goal weight.

Phase 4:

In this last phase, "Stabilization" for Dukan and "Lifetime Maintenance" for Atkins, it's about showing everyone around you that "Yes! I can stick to it!" At this stage both of the weight loss programs will make you climb onto exactly the same platform. You will have to live the rest of your life in phase 4 of your respective diets, well done!

Eating is part of life and should be neither regimented nor sacrificed. The Dukan diet promises those on a diet to drop weight by eating as much as they desire with one hundred accepted foods. The Atkins diet has been around for 40 years and has been supported with over sixty studies during this time period. In summary, both diets are designed to help one slim down. However, in losing weight the diets require the dieter to give up some foods, whichever one you consider.

The negative aspect of the Dukan diet: side effects

Dukan diet is a low-carbohydrate, protein, quick weight loss diet. The main advantage of the Dukan is a waste of a quick initial weight loss even, regular, weight; lack of hunger and lust minimum food; No counting calories or weighing of food; dieters can eat an unlimited number of allowed food and can eat whenever they want. While all of the strengths of Dukan diet a viable alternative to traditional weight-loss programs, calorie counting, there are some negative side effects mode Dukan. In this article I look at the negative pages Dukan diet: side effects.

The first few days on the diet is the most difficult. Although it is usually significant weight loss report many participants feeling fatigue with mild to moderate headaches. You then can cause irritation. This price is often seen as the price to pay for the supporters of the Dukan diet, because the side effects only last for a few days and are not considered to be as bad as the constant hunger and appetite during the first weeks of the traditional program, weight loss,

Given the low carbohydrate content and protein content of the diet, some people may experience constipation, their body is adapting to their new eating habits. This undoubtedly unpleasant side effect can be easily cured by increasing the quantity of oats bran consumed, and ensure the correct amount of water is to drink every day.

Some people have brought up an unusual side effect, Dukan diet, shopping is more difficult due to the limited menu. It's strictly speaking is not a side effect, as traditionally considered, but will address the problem here. Foods allowed on the Dukan diet are all regular, everyday food, with the possible exception of oat bran. Meat, beef, chicken, Turkey and fish are all available in all supermarkets of regular cuts. The same goes for vegetables. A wide range of vegetables are permitted, and diet, it is recommended to try the flavours that have never experienced before, but this is only to ensure their overall diet much more interesting. Bran oats is less popular, and so people have to go to the health food store or order online. Many of the larger supermarkets stock, however, and this will increase both the benefits of this special fiber is becoming more valued

The Dukan Diet Is The Fast Weight Loss No Hunger Diet

The Dukan diet is a fast and effective weight loss solution that puts you in control. Diets that force you to count every calorie before you eat or starve yourself in order to lose weight are no good. Not only to they not work, in the case of starvation diets, they are extremely difficult to stick to. The problem is that on these diets you eat almost the same foods but in smaller quantities. Of course this will help you to lose weight in the long term but only if you stick it out for months. The reason diets such as these are so difficult to follow is because the foods you are eating actually create the desire to eat more food. Sticking to a low calorie diet while you are constantly hungry and craving food is next to impossible. This is why so many people fail on such diets. It is also why so many people have being seeing success on the Dukan diet since it cuts out those foods that increase your appetite and make you feel hungrier.

When he created his diet thirty years ago, Dr. Pierre Dukan understood how important motivation is when a person is dieting. Which is why he put together a plan that meant people lose weight fast (who wants to stick around on a diet that takes weeks to show even the slightest improvement?) and they wouldn't feel hungry or crave food while they were dieting.

Think of the diets you have already been on. What was the thing that made you give it up? Weren't you just sick and tired of feeling starving all the time, depriving yourself of food and actually not seeing very much in the way of results! On the Dukan diet you can see the weight loss in just a few days. More importantly, other people will be able to see it. This means that within two weeks you will have people commenting positively on your weight loss. It could also mean putting back on those clothes stuck at the back of your closet for being too tight.

The best thing of all is that will you are losing the weight you won't be starving yourself. In fact you are allowed to eat as much as want of the allowed foods. Beef steak, chicken, fish, you can snack on it all day long if you want to. Imagine losing weight fast on a diet without ever feeling hungry, snacking whenever you want.

Remember that the Dukan diet is no fad. It has been around for thirty years. The reason you may not have heard of it until recently is that the official book was only translated into English last year (2010). Since then, thousands of people have successfully and easily lost weight following this diet.

Dukan diet works or is it just the last diet fashion?

So do you go give the Dukan diet? A lot of you have heard about is beyond doubt. The media is buzzing with news about how much weight you can lose Dukan diet and how easy it is to do. But you don't want to rush into what could be the latest trendy diets, and finally, spend a lot of time, money, and effort that might be dangerous to the eating plan. Before you get rich, protein, low carbohydrate foods, here are three things that you should know about the Dukan diet.

It's not diet fashion

This diet is for thirty years. It has been tried and tested in many different countries. It may seem that it is the new people in English-speaking countries, because it was only Dr Pierre Dukan book translated into English in 2010. However, people in the UK, us and Australia saw success on a diet for almost a year. Look for the Dukan diet forum for Internet success stories.

It is based on sound principles of

The principle of the diet is based on scientific fact. In some papers was bound in with the criticism of the starvation diet and weight loss, the latest crazes. This is absolutely incorrect. It is on the contrary, starvation diets, which are dangerous and do not work, because on the Dukan diet you can eat what you want. Weight of this diet to lose, because you eat foods rich in protein and reduced to the unhealthy fats, sugar and salt.

It is a high protein, low carbohydrate diet, so you won't feel hungry

If you have to eat the same number of calories as protein either, such as grilled chicken, or fat, such as peanuts, would feel more satisfied and fuller for longer stay if you ate chicken. Carbohydrates contain more calories than protein and longer to fill a person. That is why they are so easy to eat. Not only that, carbohydrate-rich food is often coated with the fat, in order to be more acceptable. Think about mixing butter with mashed potatoes and oil is used for cooking French fries or pokapaný over pasta. Fat in fact supports the appetite and gives us a feeling of hunger. That is why serve nuts in the bar before moving on to the restaurant to eat their food. After eating high fat nuts increases the appetite and order food in a restaurant.

Chicken and broccoli

Posted on February 15, 2012 by Janice chicken and broccoli

I couldn't get enough of this dish.  I had to immediately wrap a part of it for lunch or I would have eaten the entire thing!  Obviously, you can do this with boneless chicken breast, I am just a big fan of thighs.  If you use the chest, book it a little so it is the same thickness when you're cooking so you only cook parts of it.  Enjoy!

CHICKEN AND BROCCOLI

4 chicken thighs
2 cups broccoli
2 cloves garlic, minced
3/4 cup beef broth
Oyster sauce 1 T
t low sodium soy sauce 1
1/2 t of Splenda
1/2 t red pepper flakes
Cornstarch T 1 mixed with 1 t water

Brown the chicken legs in a little spray in a pan of cooking.  About 5 minutes on each side.  Remove and set aside.  Add broccoli to skillet and cook for 3 minutes, add the garlic to the last minute.  Add the broth of beef, oysters and soy sauces, Splenda and the red pepper flakes.  Add the chicken to the Pan and stir in the cornstarch mixture.  Cook for a further 10-15 minutes, until the chicken is fully cooked and the sauce has thickened.

Separate the eggs and add sweetener yolks, a pinch of salt and cheese to cream. Use a mixer to combine all ingredients.  In another bowl, whisk whites egg and cream of tartar until stiff (if you use the same mixer, mix the whites first, then the egg yolks mixture) the egg white mixture must be very rigid.  Using a spatula, fold little by little the mixture of eggs in the mixture of white egg yolk, taking care not to unseat white.  Spray a non-stick cookie plate and spoon half of the mixture on the sheet, make 6 mounds. Top each mound with ham and cheese or chocolate and top each mound with an another spoonful of the egg white mixture.  Bake in the oven for 30 minutes.

Crescent chocolate

Obviously those chocolate is allowed only on the Consolidation.  You can add a little more sweetener to the mix, as well.  They are delicious, and seriously, I think that you can eat them without guilt.  A small dark chocolate is good for you!

This book gives a detailed overview of various diets that one has to follow for weeks in order to see a visible difference in body weight. As, the Dukan Diet is a high protein program, the users get the benefit of better nourishment along with losing unnecessary weight at the same time.

The diet usually goes through four subsequent phases. Attack Phase is the first one where the diet lasts up to 1-10 days and during which usually the consumers have to follow a fast weight loss program. This phase is also a protein phase that includes a lot of fishes, brown eggs, steak and also low fat dairy products. The length of this phase varies depending on the over all weight that a person wants to lose.

The Dukan Diet book's menu chart is quite challenging for vegetarians because of the meat, fish and seafood in the diet. As, Eggs and dairy products are the main available protein sources of protein for vegetarians, they usually have less choices in the diet. Vegetarians are advised to take more dairy products, tofu and also oats on each day of the diet. The Dukan Diet Plan - Is It Right For You?

Introduction to The Dukan Diet - Is it for you?

A little over 10 years ago, nutritionist Dr. Pierre Dukan released his diet plan in his home French market. The Dukan Diet Plan became a sensation with millions of French people benefiting from a sensible and effective diet system which is really quite unique. Now The Dukan Diet plan is available in English and is experiencing the same level of success around the world.

But how does The Dukan Diet work? What makes it different? More importantly, is The Dukan Diet plan right for you?

On the face of it, The Dukan Diet offers what could be the dieters' ultimate dream. Achieve your ideal weight and stay there permanently while eating as much as you like. Not only that, you will eat good, real, healthy food you will not go hungry, count calories or get bored because of restrictions. This plan gets inside the psychology of the overweight person and is sympathetic to their desires and needs. Being written by a Frenchman, the diet also acknowledges the pleasures of eating and enjoying good food. This could easily be described as the slimmer's holy grail.

So, how does The Dukan Diet Plan work?

Over many years specialising in nutrition and weight management, Pierre Dukan realised that to get to an ideal weight, the body needs to be re-trained. This cannot be achieved by a short, fad diet. This requires a long term strategy which not only gives immediate results (important so people are encouraged and remain motivated) but also ensures that weight loss is permanent and stable.

The Dukan Diet is actually made up of four distinct eating plans. These plans follow on naturally from each other and progressively introducing different foods until, eventually, you are basically eating whatever you like without any restrictions whatsoever and you will maintain your ideal weight. The linchpin of these plans is the periods, or days, which is spent eating nothing but protein foods. Do not jump to the conclusion that this is just a re-hash of the Atkins diet, however. The Dukan Diet plan is very different and much more health orientated.

The first stage is called the Attack Stage. This is designed to surprise the body and create a rapid weight loss over a 5 - 10 day period. During this kick-start phase, you eat nothing but protein foods. Foods with as close to pure protein content as possible...fish, certain meats, poultry, eggs and non-fat dairy products. During this phase a person can expect to see some rapid weight loss. As much as 3-4 kilos (7 or 8 pounds) can be lost in the course of less than a week.

The next phase of the Dukan Diet Plan is called the Cruise Stage. This phase lasts far longer and is where you will experience a more gradual weight reduction down to your ideal weight. The period of time spent in this phase depends on how much weight you need to lose to get to your ideal weight or your 'True Weight' as Dukan calls it. During this phase, the dieter alternates between days consuming just protein foods and days with proteins and vegetables. Here the variety of foods permitted is very high and you will find that you will not go hungry or get bored. You will continue to lose weight consistently but a little more gradually during this phase.

Once you have reached your ideal or true weight, you then move into the Consolidation Phase. Having lost the weight you wanted to lose, this phase ensures that your body will not rebound and put it all back on again - a common occurrence with many diet plans. You will not lose weight in this phase but you will not gain either. Many carbohydrate foods such as pasta and white bread, as well as cheese, can be re-introduced and they phase prescribes two 'anything goes' celebration meals a week. This phase must last for 5 days for every pound you lost on the previous 2 phases. So if you lost 20 pounds (10 Kilos) then you would stay on this plan for 100 days. Simple. This properly consolidates your weight loss and establishes your new weight as your normal default weight.

Now the best part of all...

Once you have completed the consolidation phase you are free to enter the final stability phase. Basically eat what you like but follow some simple rules. One is that on one day each week you eat just protein foods just as you did in the attack phase. Just one day each week. Second, you must eat some oat bran each day. Third, you must do some walking each day and never again use an elevator and finally, drink at least 1.5 litres of water a day. That's it.

Whether this diet is good for you is really up to you. You may have been on unsuccessful diets before which have some of the same elements of The Dukan Diet Plan but it is the combination of the phases which really make a difference.

It is, in my opinion, one of the easiest looking diets to stick with because you can eat as much as you like, the food is healthy food - no reliance on eating loads of fats - and the result are permanent. Go for it and never have to go on a miserable diet again!

Is The Dukan Diet Just Another Fad Diet? Prepare For A Surprise

The Dukan diet is becoming more well known in the English speaking countries and coverage of this new diet is increasing. Many of the authors of new articles on the Dukan diet have criticized the plan as yet another new fad diet to arrive on the weight loss scene. But is this fair? Is it accurate to label the Dukan diet as a fad diet?

First of all, it is inaccurate to call the diet new. It may be new to English speaking audiences but it has been popular and seen great success in France for many years now. Secondly, the high protein and low carbohydrate principle behind the program is not new either. The Atkins diet is a well known low carbohydrate weight loss plan but the idea that reducing carbohydrates helps you lose weight is as old as the first weight loss programs.

Another inaccuracy in the reporting on the Dukan diet is the lumping of the program into the category of 'fad diets' and then criticizing these diets in general. It is not a starvation diet, no fasting or calorie counting is involved at any stage. Including this diet into criticism of starvation regimes is simply a category error (and shows that the author probably doesn't know what the process involves).

Some people have made criticisms about food being excluded and made the assumption that this weight loss regime is therefore unbalanced. It excludes high fat, high salt, and high sugar foods, and insists on moderation when it comes to carbohydrates, which is what healthy eating is all about. Claiming that the diet is unhealthy because of these reductions is akin to claiming that eating in moderation and avoiding junk food is unhealthy.

A final criticism is that the diet is trying to replace exercise as a weight loss method. This is the opposite of what the Dukan diet is all about! The book insists that people following the diet take regular daily exercise as part of their weight loss regime. Weight loss, no matter what program you are on, is always all about burning off more calories than you consume. The Dukan diet just makes this process easier.

So if you want to see fast weight loss results, with little or no hunger, but have been put off attempting the this diet because of accusations that it is a 'fad diet' please consider the points mentioned above before rejecting this diet solution out of hand and missing out on a great weight loss opportunity.

The Dukan Diet Review - What Is The Dukan Diet And Does It Work?

The Dukan diet is a four-step programme designed to help you to lose weight quickly and then to keep the weight off. Already, immensely successful in France, home of the Dukan diet, the original book written by Dr. Pierre Dukan has been translated into twenty languages and is popular in over twenty countries. In this review of the diet, I will be looking at what is involved, how the diet is supposed to work and whether or not it does work.

The four phases of the Dukan diet can be considered as four different diets, each suited to the different needs a person has as they progress with their weight loss. Unlike almost other diet, whose concern is merely losing excess weight, the Dukan diet has been designed to prevent the biggest pitfall in weight loss, putting it all back on again as soon a the diet is over.

The first stage is known as The Attack Phase. This is the toughest part of the diet but only lasts between two and seven days (depending on the weight loss goal). During this stage you can eat as much as you like of the seventy-two protein rich foods allowed on the diet.

The next stage is The Cruise Phase. As well as eating all the permitted protein rich food, you may know add as many of the twenty-eight different varieties of vegetable permitted on the Dukan diet as you like.

Once you have reached your weight loss goal, you now turn your attention to not putting back on all the weight you've just lost. During this process you can begin to add new foods to your regime, such as bread, potatoes and cheese. This phase is called The Consolidation Phase. And during this phase you are allowed two celebration meals each week. These meals can be made up of any foods you feel like eating.

The final phase of the Dukan diet The Stabilization Phase. You may now live without putting on weight whilst eating what food you like. The only rule is that one day of the week should be protein-rich food only. These days have become famous in France as 'protein Thursdays'.

Does The Dukan Diet Work?

When I first started the diet back in May 2010, very few people in the English speaking world had heard of the Dukan. I tried it and discovered it to be the easiest diet I had ever attempted. I experienced fast weight loss with no hunger or food cravings. Since starting a forum to share my experiences, thousands of new members have all shared similar experiences of fast and easy weight loss. If you are looking for a diet that is easy to stick to and one that works then you have one advantage I didn't have when I started. You can start your diet in knowledge that this is one that works.

Dukan Diet New From France

The Dukan Diet is the brainchild of Doctor Pierre Dukan who has been a student of weight loss for nearly 30 years. The diet has been popular in France for over 10 years but has only recently been translated into English and made available to those outside of France.

Since publication the Dukan diet has been taken up by many would be slimmers both in the UK and USA. The basic approach of this diet is that it operates in four phases each designed to serve a specific function. The four are the Attack, Cruise, consolidation and stabilization phases.

When you start the Dukan Diet you go onto the Attack Phase which is the strictest of the regime and is undertaken for between 7 to 10 days only. You are restricted to eating only high protein foods such as grilled meats, chicken, fish and eggs. In this way it is very similar to the Atkins diet however unlike Atkins you have to avoid fats and oils. The purpose of this phase is to shed a considerable amount of weight in a short time. It is not uncommon to lose as much as 10lb in this first phase.

On the cruise phase the dieter can start adding a variety of vegetables to their diet on alternate days and continue with the "all protein" diet on the other days. Dr Dukan says that you could expect to lose between 2 - 3 lb per week during this part of the diet. You continue with this phase until you reach your target weight.

When you have reached your target weight you move on to the Consolidation phase. As with any diet the problem is that having lost the weight it almost invariably returns. This phase is for your body to get used to your new eating regime and to begin to add to the variety of foods that you eat. Reintroduction of foods such as potatoes, bread and fruits and you can also have what Dr Dukan calls "guild free" meals a week.

The final and life long part of the diet is the Stabilization phase. For six days a week you can within moderation eat what you will but on the seventh day you eat nothing but protein. Dr Dukan recommends Thursday as the best day of the week to do this.

The obvious question is does the Dukan Diet work? There are a great number of supported who can offer prove that it does but there are also concerns about how healthy such an eating regime is. If you have a considerable amount of weight to lose this approach could be attractive. However, if you just want to drop a dress size or two there are better ways.

What is The Dukan Diet?

The Dukan Diet is a dietary style that is getting traction and popularity lately. Developed by Pierre Dukan, a French dietician and nutritionist, it is primarily a diet rich in protein. First developed in 1975, it was only lately that it became popular, selling millions of copies and got translated into a variety of languages along the way. So what makes the Dukan Diet tick? We would try to find out with this article.

The story of the Dukan Diet traces its roots in 1975, when a general practitioner named Pierre Dukan was making his research about obesity. This curiosity came out because he wanted to find a solution for obesity after he encountered for the first time a patient with a case of obesity. Back then, the main treatment for obesity is to take in less food in general and less calories in particular. However, Dukan has made his research to try and look for a possible alternative to this method. Over that time span, he compiled all the results of his research and published them in 2000. In his book Je ne sais pas maigrir, a French phrase translating into "I don't know how to get slimmer", there he published all his findings. The results were astonishing to say the least, as it became a bestselling book, printing over 10 million copies and being translated into 14 languages in 32 countries since being released in 2000.

The Dukan diet is centered on 2 principles: allowed foods and ground pillars. The allowed foods are composed of around a hundred foods, including a list of 72 protein-rich foods and 28 specific vegetables. The ground pillars are better known as phases, procedures that you must follow in order to accomplish this diet successfully. The first phase, known as the attack phase, is known as the process in which metabolism is activated, speeding digestion up. Allowed to eat 72 specific foods rich in protein during the duration of this phase, during this process, the practitioner is expected to lose weight fast: around 2-3 kilograms within 1 week or less. The second phase, known as the cruise phase, is still similar to the attack phase, but the difference is that 28 specific vegetables are added into the diet. Weight loss is now slower, losing around 1 kilogram per week, but it should allow the dieter to get to their target weight more gradually. The third phase, the consolidation phase, is developed particularly to prevent sudden weight gain. Foods like fruits, bread, and starchy foods are now being integrated back into the diet and up to 2 celebratory meals are now allowed per week. And the last phase, the stabilization phase, is similar to a normal diet, but the only difference is having at least one protein diet day a week and having a steady diet of oat bran into the diet.

The Dukan Diet is one of the more critically acclaimed diets in the world today, as evidenced by its gargantuan sales. Also, it is a relatively effective and simple method compared to other diets that are mostly intrusive. And thousands of people have attested to its effectiveness, most famously Kate Middleton, who employed this diet to lose 2 dress sizes worth of weight.

On the Dukan Diet and Looking For a Snack

The Dukan diet is a diet in four phases. You can think of it as actually four diets followed one after the other. The great success of the Dukan diet is down to the fact that it's creator, French nutritionist Dr. Pierre Dukan, recognized that over the course of a diet the requirements of the dieter change. For example, most people are aware that a major problem with diets is the piling on of weight after the diet is over. The third stage of the Dukan diet is a diet to cover this period, ensuring that all the weight lost is not regained. In this article, I am going to be looking at snacks that can be enjoyed during all four phases of the diet.

People on the Dukan diet rarely feel hungry or crave food. Since it is a high protein and low carbohydrate regime, the need to snack is not an urgent one. However, snacking is not all about being hungry. We do snack when we feel hungry but we also snack when we're bored or just because the people we're with are having a snack. At home, a quick and easy treat could be a few slices of thinly sliced beef with mustard. Or, you could enjoy a few surimi sticks (crabsticks). What you are not allowed, if you're on the diet, is a bag of potato chips or a handful of nuts.

This is only really a problem if you are out and you want to eat a snack. It's not impossible, by any means, to carry around some sliced chicken, a non-fat yogurt pot, or some surimi but it isn't that practical. In addition, if you are snacking with friends, you want to be eating snacks similar to theirs.

My solution to this problem is to buy yourself a bag of beef jerky or biltong. If you have the choice, biltong is much more Dukan diet friendly since it contains less sugar. Both are available in bags similar to the ones potato chips come in and both are as easy to carry around as a bag of chips. More importantly, they contain much less fat, sugar and salt than potato based snacks. Jerky and biltong are delicious to eat too.

Dukan Diet And Constipation 5 Different Ways Of Dealing With This Unpleasant Side Effect

Some people new to the Dukan diet find themselves experiencing the discomfort of constipation and digestive transit problems. In most cases this situation is temporary and normal reaction to the body adjusting to new foods and a different eating regime. Due to the fact that the Dukan diet is high in protein and low in fat and carbohydrates people on the diet often report needing to go to the toilet less often. This decrease in frequency and need can be misinterpreted as constipation. Someone used to going at a particular time of day may find their routine disrupted not by constipation but simply due a lack of waste product that needs to be passed. If this is the case then there is no problem to be solved. Of course, genuine constipation is uncomfortable and unpleasant and needs to be sorted out quickly.

In this article I will be looking a 5 ways to deal with the problem of constipation on the Dukan diet.

1. Eat your oat bran every day

The first thing to do is to ensure that you are eating the recommended amount of oat bran each day. You can eat your oat bran either on its own in a porridge (flavored with cinnamon and vanilla for a delicious daily treat) or added to other food such as a burger filler.

If you are eating enough oat bran but are still experiencing constipation you can increase the amount you eat each day until your digestive system gets back to normal.

2. Try adding some wheat bran to your diet

Another option, suggested by Dr. Dukan in the official book, is to add a spoonful of wheat bran your diet each day that you are having problems.

3. You must drink plenty of water

A third thing you can do is to make sure you are drinking enough water each day. A lack of water in your system can cause constipation. Make sure that you are drinking the recommended minimum of two liters of water per day. Even if you don't have digestive transport problems you should be drinking this amount of water every day, whether you are on the Dukan diet or not.

4. You can eat a few prunes if that helps

A fourth option is to eat a small quantity of fruit such as prunes until your movements are back to normal. Yes, you are not allowed fruit during the Dukan diet but there is no point in suffering unnecessarily, you may eat a few prunes if this helps clear up digestive problems.

5. Ask your pharmacist for help

Finally, if you are really suffering from constipation you can buy some over the counter remedies from your local pharmacist. Obviously you don't want to find yourself over-doing things like laxatives and suppositories but a small dose simply to deal with an urgent problem is perfectly acceptable.

Once more, skip the vegetables and just eat the chicken on a day of pure protein and it is a fabulous dish.  For a vegetarian day of protein, go!  I know say this all the time, but this may be my favorite so far chicken dish.  I really, really liked it.  The remains can't wait for lunch today!

CHICKEN PEPPER BLACK

4 boneless, skinless chicken thighs

1 onion, sliced
1/2 cup red wine
1/2 cup low sodium beef broth
Oyster sauce 1 T
1 T soy sauce

cornstarch t 1 mixed with 1 t water

Season chicken with salt and pepper.  Brown chicken in a pan grill on both sides for about 5 minutes, a bit of cooking spray.  Remove and set aside.  Add onion and bell pepper to the Pan and cook for 5 minutes.  Mix the wine, broth, oysters and soy sauces and pepper black together in a small bowl.  Pour the mixture into the grill pan and put the chicken in the pan.  Cook for 10 minutes, add cornstarch mixture to the Pan and cook for a further 5 minutes until the sauce has thickened and chicken is cooked perfectly.

Dukan Diet Recipes

The Dukan Diet has been a very popular program in UK since several years; its recipes and diet plan helped many people in Europe and other countries to lose extra pounds. The diet chart and recipes were introduced by Dr. Pierre Dukan; a recent report says that it has been used by over a million people in France alone. The recipes by Dukan are protein rich and highly nutritious. With a slow moving four phased diet plan, Dukan diet is becoming highly popular among many users. Sometimes, people who come across this product usually question about its success.

The answer is always positive. The exclusive diet plan actually has worked for many users and helped them to lose the desired weight. There are a number of positive feedback from people using the Dukan Diet; most of them have claimed that they have lost weight with it, and also loved the low carb recipes provided to the members. Celebrities such as Gisele Bundchen and Jennifer Lopez have also tried this diet plan and expressed their success in their private testimonials for the product. Hence, it is true that this diet helps the users to lose weight on a short as well as long term basis. Sometimes, it is reported that Dukan diet is not quite suitable for vegans as they have less choices for protein diet; but still the diet book includes some unique protein rich recipes for the vegans as well.

Usually, the recipes in the book focus on protein intake and also all other nutrients. With this as a main principle of the program, Dukan diet achieves the weight loss goal in a consistent way while maintaining the overall nutrition of the body. In different stages of diet during the program, the protein intake varies along with the food choices. Basically, the recipes are aimed for providing better nourishment to the body while helping the body to burn calories at the same time.

Dr Pierre Dukan the inventor of this diet plan is a French medical doctor who has spent most of his career with heavy weighed people and helped them losing weight permanently; hence, the Dukan Diet plan is the result of his thirty-five years successful clinical experience. The recipes include many delicious gazpachos, pasta, boiled meat stews, loafs, cereals, spaghetti and also a number of delicious deserts for the weight watchers. In the membership area of the site, the "most favorite recipe of the week" is posted along with its nutritional chart and cooking methods. Many tips for weight loss also are posted with the recipes for making the food healthier and of course delectable.

Finally, the Dukan Diet does have a lot of merits and also drawbacks; looking from a vegan's point of view, the diet plan seems little tough whereas people eating meat and seafood find it very much successful. The step by step plans help the body to lose weight slowly while maintaining a balanced diet and providing the required sustenance to the body. So, Dukan's diet plan and recipes are quite successful when they are followed diligently.

Dukan diet: Get the facts on America's newest diet Craze

What is The Dukan diet? -History of the company

Dukan diet is quickly gaining notoriety as one of the surest ways to lose weight and keep forever. Dukan diet creator Dr. Dukan Pierre would be studied and modified his diet method with his own patients, 25 years before it was originally published in 2000. It became a food number 1 in France and in April 2011, the book based on the diet was released to North America with great pomp. This extensive advertising from news of celebrities like Jennifer Lopez and Kate Middleton have used him to lose weight.

How does it work?

Dukan diet is a diet based on eating mostly protein in the form of lean meat, fish and milk products with a low fat content. As a result your body into ketosis.

Ketosis means that instead of burning carbohydrates as energy and storing energy as fat, your body uses extra fat reserves as energy. Foods that contain high amounts of carbohydrates, such as foods containing sugar, bread, fruits and some vegetables, are not allowed.

The food is mostly protein has the advantage in reducing hunger, and allows you to eat less. They are also likely to maintain much more muscle than you would on a low-calorie or diet containing carbohydrates.

How diet progresses, you can eat all the other foods, starting with the vegetables, and then add a small amount of fruit and bread, and ends with regular, well balanced diet.

It is a safe way to lose weight?

It all depends on who to talk to! Nutritionists hates The Dukan diet, because it will not support a balanced diet, but there are many doctors who support as a method of short-term loss in mass.

If it is to follow the diet properly and paying special attention to the amount of water you drink, the health risks are minimal. Don't forget to return to a healthy and balanced diet, after what you achieved your goal-you don't want the weight come back!

The Dukan Diet For People Who Think That Diets Don't Work

You are reading about the Dukan diet so there is a good chance that you are thinking about giving this diet a go. But are you one of those people that have almost given up on diets altogether? I wonder how many people there are at the end of their tether, totally frustrated by the lack of success they've had with diets and weight loss plans they've tried in the past. If you are one of those people then the Dukan diet could be just what you're looking for. So before you give up completely - a mistake I almost made a year ago before I gave the Dukan diet a chance - please read on.

When people say that diets don't work what they usually mean is that diets only seem to work for a short period of time before the weight loss stops. This is the dreaded weight loss plateau. Dr. Dukan refers to this situation as being in 'stagnation'. Being on a diet but without losing any weight at all is disheartening to say the least and it is at this point that most people tend to give up and go back to their old ways. But things don't have to be this way! You do not need to stagnate while on the Dukan diet.

Dr. Dukan identifies 4 groups of people most likely to find themselves in this situation:

Women who have a history of dieting. These are the women who have tried everything and come to Dukan in desperation hoping that there is a way for them to lose weight.

People who come from families with a long history of obesity. Women who have overweight children as well as mothers, fathers and aunts and uncles who are obese.

Men and women who are very obese. Losing weight when you are hugely over weight can seem like trying to do the impossible.

People who live a very sedentary lifestyle. Most of us lead more a sedentary life than perhaps our recent ancestors did. We drive to work, sit down all day at the office before returning home and hitting the couch in front of the TV.

Now a weight loss plateau or 'stagnation' period is a normal part of any weight loss program. As far as I am aware, it is your body's way of coping with what it sees as a shortage of food. It is perfectly possible to wait the situation out, just stick to the weight loss plan (whether that is the Dukan diet or regular calorie counting) and you should get past it and go back to losing weight. This is easier said than done however!

But you do not have to just put up with the plateau. Dr Dukan has the answer and it is as simple as this: exercise.

He writes:

"A body that has started to resist dieting cuts down its energy consumption and extracts every last calorie from its food intake, blocking the weight loss long enough for the diet to fail. But if when the situation is blocked the forces present are in equilibrium, like two sides of a pair of scales, and there is a sudden dose of 'prescribed exercise' this confuses the body breaking the stalemate."

In the Official Dukan Diet Book Dr. Dukan then gives his easy 6 step plan to breaking the stagnation period and quickly getting over the weight loss plateau period. Those of you not too excited about exercise need not be too worried. The prescribed exercise is simply walking!

The Dukan Diet

The Dukan diet is a method in 4 phases with the aim of returning to a diet based on natural foods. A diet for weight loss can sometimes be hazardous according to the method advocated. But in the case plan Dukan diet is effective and natural. It is very well structured and divided into a progressive course in 4 stages:

Regime Dukan # 1 - Phase Attack

Regime Dukan # 2 - Phase Alternative

Regime Dukan #: 3 - Consolidation Phase

Regime Dukan #: 4 - Stabilization Phase

The attack phase of Dukan diet is to eat only animal protein for 5 to 10 days. This means eating fatty fish raw or cooked seafood, lean meats like veal, poultry (except ducks).

To make arrangements under the regime Dukan, the 2nd step is to integrate raw vegetables or cooked food supplements in Phase 1. During this 2nd phase of the scheme Dukan must alternate days with animal protein and only days with animal protein and vegetables until the ideal weight.

Be careful when talking about weight, it does not just mean the number on the scales but also the body mass index of an indicator that shows whether you are overweight.

Once you successfully reach your ideal weight, it goes to the 3rd stage of the plan to consolidate Dukan. For this there are 10 days lost per kg. So if you have lost 2 pounds, the stabilization phase lasts 20 days. The meals include foods allowed in Phase 1 and 2 you can add 1 serving of fruit and 2 slices of bread (wholemeal bread only) each day. You also take up to 2 servings of starchy but a week. Caution is essential in 1 day each week where you eat only animal protein (feed phase 1). You can also allow normal 2 meals per week.

Finally the last step plan Dukan, stabilization. You can eat normally, but keep the habit of having only 1 day with animal protein (again the list of foods allowed in step 1).

This salad was just a quick side-dish to one of my recent Asian recipe posts.  I got a new mandolin so I’m trying to find any excuse to use it.  Anyway, this salad is such a simple, fresh dish.  Fresh or imitation crab works–whatever you can find.  Serve it with the Pork and Shrimp Meatballs, a post from last year.  They would go great together!

CUCUMBER CRAB SALAD

1 large Japanese cucumber, ends removed
1/3 lb Dungeness crab or imitation crab
1/4 cup unseasoned rice wine vinegar
1-2 t Splenda
1 t low sodium soy sauce
1 green onion, chopped

Slice cucumber, using a mandolin, 1/8-inch thick.  Put cucumber in a large flat dish.  Mix the rice wine vinegar, Splenda and soy together and pour over cucumber.  Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1/2 hour.  Divide the cucumber and crab into 4 small bowls, pouring the dressing over the top and garnishing with green onion.

Is the Dukan Diet Healthy?

To decide if the Dukan Diet is healthy or not, it is extremely advisable to check the pros and cons linked to this diet. When opting to take on this diet it is also advisable that one should consult their medical professional in order to avoid any health-related issues that might result from any diet. This practice is even more essential when the diet you are thinking about restricts particular food groups such as carbohydrates and fats as the Dukan Diet does.

The Benefits:

First off, it's about losing weight. The key benefit of the Dukan Diet is that it helps in shedding pounds and decreases the chance of any and all conditions that could be met with being overweight. Such concerns may include; hypertension (high blood pressure), diabetes, heart attack, stroke, etc.

The Dukan Diet is very famous and possesses a successful track record with many positive testimonials.

The initial Attack phase (this lasts for approximately 2 to 10 days) results in speedy and observable weight-loss which is very inspiring for several individuals.

The Dukan Diet recommends that you say no to counting your calorie intake as it might result in decreased commitment. (Not everybody likes to count everything they eat!) This diet is simple to adhere to and permits the dieter to eat as much as he/she wants of the permitted food without restricting portions.

While in the Consolidation and Stabilization phases the dieter can indulge himself/herself in their favorite foods making the diet a lot more palatable. *This will allow you to plan a far more normal social life. The diet plan is definitely appropriate and useful for the individuals that just can't surrender meat, carnivores rejoice!

On the flipside, it may get hard for the vegetable lovers out there. One benefit is it could be affordable if cheap sources of proteins are consumed. One crucial element of the Dukan Diet is that it is a very promising diet, which not only gives great ways of losing weight but also to help maintain it forever just by adding one day of the week for purely high protein food only. Not a bad deal!

The Cons:

Like the rest of the crash diet programs, the Dukan Diet promises a considerable weight loss while in its initial phases. But since it is a restrictive diet plan, there are a few potential problems that you might have to address. From a health mind-set, ingesting high proteins and scaling down fats and carbohydrates from your diet can create a number of adverse reactions. Protein sources play a crucial role here. If the protein sources are mainly selected from eggs and red meat, it could result in increased cholesterol levels rather than lowered ones.

A high protein diet is one of the many elements that lead to a dieter contracting gout. Other causes could correspond with family history. Consumption of a high protein diet adds to the chance of being constipated. Having said that, Dr. Dukan advises this problem can be overcome by eating oat bran and ingesting lots of water to prevent fiber deficiency.

The Dukan Diet, is potentially effective for weight reduction, consequently it is not necessarily ideal and adequate for everybody. In some cases people could possibly have a lot weight to lose and since the Attack phase and the Cruise phase of the weight loss plan are so restrictive some individuals might tend not to trust in it. The Dukan Diet also can have a unfavorable impact on social life due to its very restrictive nature.

None of its advantages or disadvantages should be overlooked, as weight loss and being healthy may not be always synonymous. Sometimes it gets tough to determine. The best thing to do is to consult your physician and dietitian about any diet's effects on your body before getting started.
