The Dr Dukan Diet - Is It The Answer To Your Weight Loss Problems?

Every year there seems to be a new diet that everyone talks about and this year it is the Dukan Diet. Is it possible that this new diet is the answer to your weight loss problems or just a new diet with empty promises?

There have been various diets throughout the years; the South Beach diet, the Atkins diet, the full moon diet, and the list goes on. Some are based on high protein and low carbs or vice versa. Some require you to eat very little and the criticism is always the same- the weight usually comes back.

How the Dukan Diet Is Broken Up

This diet consists of four phases.

Phase 1 allows eating protein high meat and oats.
Phase 2 adds veggies to the diet along with eating the same as in phase 1.
Phase 3 bread, cheese fruit and carbs is added to the diet along with the items from phases one and two.
Phase 4 is more flexible and you can eat anything except for once a week when you eat as in the first phase.

Why The Diet Is So Popular

Although the popularity of this diet has increased because of the royal wedding, it is also very popular because it does not seem to be too restrictive as it allows anyone to eat meats and is less strict in the final phase of the diet. Also, because this diet does not require anyone to count calories or exercise it seems like an easy answer to a weight loss problem.

Why This Diet Won't Work

Unfortunately this diet fails to place an emphasis on exercise and the right type of workouts that burn fat. Although in the Dukan Diet one recommendation is to take short walks for fat loss the truth is that this will not be enough to lose fat.

In order to lose significant amount of weight you have to eat healthy and workout. Although it is tempting to take an easy route, it is unavoidable; you have to do exercises like cardio and strength training using bodyweight, weights or machines.

What Truly Works For Weight Loss

In order to see results that are more effective and long term you have to follow certain workout plan. Here are some recommendations that are better than any fad diet.

Cardio: Do interval type training instead of your typical jogging cardio workouts
Strength Training: do strength training with either bodyweight workouts, weight training or resistance bands. Any of these is fine to do at least 3 days per week.
Reduce your calories: Simply eating fewer calories than what you are eating now will go a long way. However, you have to eat quality calories by eating healthy choices.

Losing fat and losing weight should not be about being restrictive with how you eat but is should also be paired with a healthy lifestyle. Simply choosing a healthier lifestyle can take you a long way to reaching your goals.

Instead of following something like the Dr. Dukan Diet go ahead and follow some of these suggestions for a better method of losing weight.
