Why Must Dukan Diet Recipes Be Bland And Flavor Free?

The Dukan diet is low in fat, low in sugar and low in salt, does this mean that it must necessarily be low in flavor? Not a bit of it. Enjoying the taste of what you eat is vital if your food is going to be satisfying and leave you contented. If you are on the Dukan diet you are doing yourself a disservice if you deny yourself tasty flavor sensations while you lose weight. In this article, I will be looking at three ways you can instantly add delicious flavor to your food and still lose weight on the Dukan diet.

Add herbs and spices to your Dukan diet recipes

You can add almost any herb or spice you can think of to your food to give it some spicy, tangy, cool or hot flavors. Crushed chili will add instant spice and heat to your food. Not all chillies are 'burn your mouth hot', different varieties have different flavors, some hot and some mild, some peppery and others smoky. Mint will cool down your food. You can make a delicious dip or dressing to accompany your cooked meats by simply mixing chopped mint and low fat yogurt. Consider using herbs like coriander, thyme, parsley, oregano, rosemary, and so on. Experiment to find the flavor sensations you enjoy. Don't forget the delicious difference something as simple as chopped onion, shallot, garlic or chives can make to a meal. All of these herbs and spices can be used during the Attack Phase of the Dukan diet.

Chop up a pickled gherkin or pickled onion

Diced gherkins and pickled onions can be sprinkled over foods to give a tasty tang and crunch to your meals. These can be enjoyed during the Attack Phase but only in small amounts sprinkled over your food, think one pickled gherkin or one picked onion. If you plan on eating more than that they would count as vegetables and you should wait for a protein and vegetable day of the diet.

Use sweeteners, vanilla and cinnamon instead of sugar

The Dukan diet is a low sugar weight loss plan however you can replace sugar with sweeteners. You can also experiment with using vanilla, either vanilla pods (although they can be a bit expensive) or vanilla essence. Cinnamon can give a sweet heat to any food, you can add this to savory dishes for a North African flavor or use it with sweet dishes. Try adding cinnamon or nutmeg to your oat bran porridge. All these sweet flavors can be enjoyed during the Attack Phase
