The Dukan Diet Or Traditional Calorie Counting? Read This Article Before You Decide

People who are used to calorie counting diet can be reluctant to try something like the Dukan diet that is radically different. If you are unsure how the Dukan diet is different to other diets then here are the two main differences:

You don't feel hungry on the Dukan diet

Due to the high protein content of the diet you will feel fuller for longer after you eat. People used to think that an equal number of calories eaten as either fat, carbohydrate or protein would make a person feel just as full and satisfied for just as long. This is not the case. 200 calories eaten as protein, for example some grilled chicken, will keep a person fuller for much longer than say 200 calories of fat, eaten as a handful of peanuts. Think about it, people eat nuts before they eat their main meal in order to create an appetite.

Since the Dukan diet is high protein and low in carbohydrate and fat, you won't feel hungry while you're on the diet. In addition to this, you won't crave high fat or sugary foods as much either. This is the benefit of feeling fuller for longer. You feel satisfied and are not constantly feeling like you are going without.

You don't need to count calories

High protein foods are naturally low in fat. If you stick to the one hundred allowed foods on the Dukan diet you will always be eating fewer calories than your body is used to and so will burn the calories you are storing as fat. When you try to lose weight, the process is simple. If you eat more calories than you need you will store this extra energy as fat. If you eat fewer calories than you need you will use up the calories currently stored in your body as fat. The Dukan diet is naturally a low calorie diet and so there is no need to waste time counting calories and weighing out exact portions of food and so on.

Verdict

Counting calories is frustrating when all you want to do is tuck into a delicious meal. When you are checking the calories contained in your food the emphasis is always on not eating and reducing food intake rather than simply eating and enjoying your meals. Not having to worry about calories is a bonus for any diet plan. But the biggest plus is not feeling hungry while you are on the diet. The quickest way to lose the will to continue, the ultimate motivation sapper is feeling hungry all the time. To go on a diet and not feel hungry, to not crave food and not be thinking about eating all day long is probably the biggest advantage of the Dukan diet.
