Dukan Diet Review

Since the publication of the Dukan Diet in the UK, there has been a great deal written and spoken about this latest diet plan. It was created over 10 years ago by the French nutritionist Dr Pierre Dukan.

The original idea for the Dukan diet came when a friend asked the Doctor to help him lose weight. The problem was that his friend loved meat and wanted a diet that allowed him to carry on eating his favourite food. After some time Dr Dukan recommended that the man eat nothing but protein and drank large quantise of water. Apparently the weight lose in a short period was phenomenal and the guy lost 10 lbs.

The outcome after much research was the Dukan Diet which is now championed by 1.5 million French women. In some ways the Dukan diet is not dissimilar to the Atkins diet with its concentration on protein but it does differ in the fact that the diet consists of four phases. As you progress through the phases you have more foods added to your permitted menu.

The four phases, Attack, Cruise, Stabilization and Consolidation are designed to get you down to your target weight and then keep you there.

The problem with any diet such as this with its strict limitations on what you can eat can prove monotonous. Also in the attack phase the pure protein diet can lead to excessive flatulence and tiredness. It will take quite a bit of will power to stick to the demands of the attack phase for a week or 10 days. Even when you move on to the cruise phase of alternate protein only and protein with vegetables days it will require a high degree of will power.

This could be the answer for anyone who needs to lose a great amount of weight quickly but it cannot be recommended for those who jut want to lose a few pounds. For most people a more gentle approach such as the Mediterranean diet would be more acceptable.

If you opt for the Dukan Diet you should remember that your weight loss will be helped if you include a 20 minute walking or aerobics exercise period in your schedule. It is also important whilst following this diet to ensure that you drink enough water, as much as 3 litres a day, during the attack phase.
